Sheriff Joe Arpaio announces run for U.S. Senate

Sheriff Joe

Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced he is running for U.S. Senate.

Arpaio served as Maricopa County Sheriff for 24 years before losing a re-election bid to Paul Penzone in 2016, and at the time, Arpaio was on trial for criminal contempt of court for ignoring a judge’s order to stop immigration patrols that targeted the Latino population.

Arpaio was convicted of charges but was pardoned by President Trump before being sentenced.

Former Arizona Senator Kelli Ward is also running for Flake’s Senate seat.
